Telemedicine & Appointment Options

We are here to support all your healthcare needs during this challenging time and aim to deliver convenient care to all our patients, no matter what. Many of our practices and providers now offer telemedicine appointments that come to you.

Our telemedicine services connect patients to their health care providers using a live, two-way audio-visual platform. All you need is a smartphone, tablet or computer. This allows patients to talk face-to-face with their providers from the comfort of their home.

Telemedicine is not only convenient, but it is the safest way to receive care during the COVID-19 pandemic. In response to the outbreak, we rapidly enhanced our telemedicine capabilities to minimize disruption of care while protecting staff and patients alike. If your provider determines you need to be seen in the office, you will be given further instructions.

Frequently asked questions about telemedicine

Step-by-step guide to a telemedicine visit

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a telemedicine appointment?
Telemedicine appointments connect patients to their health care providers through a live video conferencing platform, like FaceTime or Skype, on your smartphone, tablet, or computer. Telemedicine appointments can be conducted over the phone (telephonic) if video is unavailable.

What are the benefits of a telemedicine appointment?
Telemedicine visits allow you to receive healthcare services from the comfort of your home. Receiving care while at home is the best way to improve and maintain your health while limiting your exposure and slowing the spread of COVID-19.

What are the limitations of a telemedicine appointment?
You may experience technical difficulty with your internet connection, device, or the telemedicine platform. If this is a problem, your provider may conduct your appointment over the phone.

How do I schedule a telemedicine appointment?
You can schedule a telemedicine appointment by call your provider or their practice directly.

What kind of technology do I need for a telemedicine appointment?
You need a mobile device, tablet, or computer with internet access and webcam/video functionality.

Who pays for telemedicine appointments?
Telemedicine appointments are billed and paid for the same way as regular office visits – either through insurance or by self-pay. You may still need to pay any applicable copayments that you would typically pay for an office visit.

How do I know if my insurance covers telemedicine?
Medicare, Medicaid, and most commercial health insurance plans typically cover many telehealth services, though there may be some policy-specific limitations. During the COVID-19 pandemic, telemedicine coverage has been expanded through federal and state waivers and executive orders.

You can also contact your insurance company directly to ask about their coverage of telemedicine appointments.

How is my privacy protected while using telemedicine?
Telemedicine is subject to the same privacy rules and regulations as in-person healthcare services. Southern New Hampshire Health’s telemedicine platform is safe, secure, and HIPAA compliant. You can protect your privacy at home by using a secure internet connection and completing your appointment in a private location.
