Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Pulmonary Rehabilitation is designed for people with chronic lung disease, such as emphysema, COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), and related respiratory problems.

Overview

Exercise and educational sessions promote independence, exercise tolerance, and endurance. Participants receive support to help stabilize their illness and improve their quality of life. The program is aimed to support patients in decreasing shortness of breath and becoming more actively involved in their own health care.

Diet, medications, relaxation techniques, home care equipment, bronchial hygiene, and community resources are part of the educational series.

Exercise sessions focus on stretching and flexibility, resistance and strength training, and aerobic exercise. The Pulmonary Rehabilitation team consists of respiratory therapists, exercise physiologists, nurses, and medical director.
