Before Your Surgery

  • Prior to your procedure, it is important that your physician and nurses at The Surgery Center of Greater Nashua know your general state of health.
  • Expect a phone call from a nurse on your care team prior to your procedure to review instructions, complete a health questionnaire, and answer any questions you may have.
  • This preadmission nurse will explain what to expect before and after your procedure and will discuss your discharge needs so you can plan your care at home. Some diagnostic tests may be necessary and should be completed one week prior to your procedure.
  • You will be contacted regarding eating and drinking prior to your procedure.
  • Take medications that the preadmission nurse, or your physician has instructed you to take.
  • Plan for someone to drive you home after your procedure.
  • Remember to leave your valuables at home.
  • Bring your picture ID, insurance identification card, and cellular phone.
  • Do not wear makeup, nail polish or jewelry (including body piercings). Please tie long hair back.
  • If you wear eyeglasses, bring them as well as your glasses case. Contact lenses cannot be worn during the procedure. Remove them prior to your arrival or bring your contact container.
  • Tampons may not be used during surgical procedures.
  • If you wear a hearing aid or dentures, please wear them to the Surgery Center. You may be instructed to remove them prior to your procedure.  If removed, they will be returned after your procedure.
  • If you use an inhaler or insulin pump, please bring them with you the day of your procedure.
  • Children are encouraged to bring their favorite toy or blanket with them. A parent/guardian of  a minor patient must remain in The Surgery Center of Greater Nashua at all times during the procedure.

After Your Surgery

  • Prior to discharge, a nurse will review procedure-specific discharge instructions.
  • You should plan to have someone to stay with you for the first 24 hours if you have had anesthesia.
  • At home you should rest. Avoid alcohol, driving a motor vehicle and operating machinery. Do not make important legal decisions for 24 hours.
  • A nurse will call you within three days after your discharge to check on your progress and to answer any questions you might have. You will be emailed a patient satisfaction survey which we encourage you to fill out and return.
