What time is my surgery?

Surgery Center staff will call you the day before your surgery to tell you what time to arrive. If you have not received a call by 2:00 p.m. on the day prior to surgery, please telephone The Surgery Center at (603) 578-9909 to ask about your surgical and arrival time.

What should I do if something comes up and I need to cancel my surgery?

Please call both your surgeon’s office and The Surgery Center of Greater Nashua at (603) 578-9909 as soon as possible. If you call after hours, you may leave a message.

How do I know if my insurance company will cover my surgery?

Please check with your insurance carrier to review your benefits and determine if pre-authorization is required. If you need assistance with this, Southern NH Health’s billing department will be happy to help you.

Will I be able to drive after my surgery?

If you are having surgery under anesthesia, except for local anesthesia, you cannot drive, and must be accompanied home by a responsible adult. This policy is for your safety and is strictly adhered to. You cannot take a taxi home, unless accompanied by a responsible adult.

Will my family be able to visit me immediately after my procedure?

We are happy to provide family members waiting in reception periodic updates. Please request additional information regarding our visitation policy.
 

Who will provide my anesthesia services?

Anesthesia services at The Surgery Center of Greater Nashua are provided by North American Partners in Anesthesia. You will have a board certified/board eligible Anesthesiologist, and/or Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist caring for you throughout your stay.
 

When will I meet my anesthesiologist?

An Anesthesiologist will review your chart prior to coming to the Surgery Center of Greater Nashua to determine that you are an appropriate candidate for the Ambulatory Surgical setting. You will be interviewed the day of your surgical procedure by an Anesthesiologist.  The Anesthesiologist will ask questions about your medical history and review any pre-operative testing you had performed.  Please feel free to discuss any concerns you may have.
 

What is different about ambulatory anesthesia?

Your anesthetic plan, that is discussed with you prior to surgery, is tailored to you!  This ensures you are ready to go home in a timely manner after your procedure is complete.

What types of anesthesia might I receive?

General anesthesia – Under general anesthesia, you are asleep and your whole body is free of pain.

Monitored Anesthesia Care (MAC) – You will be given pain medication and/or a sedative, in conjunction with a local anesthetic, to keep you comfortable during surgery.
Regional anesthesia – You remain awake, but the entire area of your body affected by the surgery is made free of pain. Regional anesthetics such as spinal, epidural, or extremity block are most commonly used in surgical procedures at the Surgery Center.
Local anesthesia – You remain awake, but the body part being operated on will be numb to pain.

What are common side effects of anesthesia?

Mild nausea and vomiting for a day or two after surgery is not uncommon. It is more likely to occur if you have a history of nausea and vomiting with past surgeries, or if you are susceptible to motion sickness. Depending on the type of anesthesia you receive, you may experience a sore throat, headache, drowsiness, muscle ache and/or fatigue for a few days after your procedure.

Will I be billed separately by the Anesthesiologist?

If you receive anesthesia, you will be billed separately by North American Partners in Anesthesia for their professional fees. These fees are separate from The Surgery Center of Greater Nashua facility fees. If you have any questions regarding anesthesia charges, please call (516) 945-3000.

Can I have an Advance Directive?

The Surgery Center of Greater Nashua respects the rights of our patients to make decisions regarding advance directives and resuscitation efforts. We will ask our patients to provide us with a copy of their advance directive which will be placed with their medical record.

Do you have forms in other languages?

We strive to provide communication access to individuals whose primary language is not English and for those who are hearing impaired. Interpreting services for patients and their companions are available at no cost. Please ask your nurse or other Surgery Center Staff members for assistance.
 

How do I get to the Surgery Center?

Directions:
From the Everett Turnpike: Take Exit 5E and proceed east on Kinsley Street to Main Street. Turn right onto Main Street, then take the first left onto Prospect Street. Go through the stop sign and take your first left into 10 Prospect St. You will see the Surgery Center of Greater Nashua sign on the building. Free parking is available in the front and on the side of the building.
