Profile
Beverly Kennedy, a board-certified nurse practitioner, has joined the staff at New England Gynecology and Surgical Services, where she is accepting new patients. She earned her B.S. in nursing at Fitchburg State University in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, and a Master of Science in nursing from Simmons University in Boston. Kennedy decided to pursue being a nurse practitioner after several years in the field working as a registered nurse in maternity and high-risk antenatal hospital units.
“From the first time I did a clinical on the OB floor as a nursing student, I knew OB/GYN was it for me,” she says.
Kennedy chose to become a nurse practitioner after working with an Nurse Practitioner in a prenatal clinic. “I loved the way she was able to help women,” she says. Since becoming a nurse practitioner, Kennedy has particularly loved working with teenagers and young adults.
“There are many challenges to working in the healthcare field in general,” she says. “The biggest challenge I feel is having enough time to give to my patients.”
What Kennedy finds critical is establishing a strong provider-patient relationship from the outset.
“The ideal provider-patient relationship is one that is created based on trust and a feeling of safety,” she says. “The resulting trust a patient places in me is what I feel is the most rewarding in this field.”
When she’s not working, Kennedy spends time reading and with her family at the lake and with her 13-year-old black lab, Poppy.
