Profile

A graduate of Saint Anselm College in Manchester with a B.S. in nursing, Victoria Martone received her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of New Hampshire in Durham.

Martone says while working as a nurse and nurse practitioner in various settings she recognized she had a particular interest in infectious diseases.

“Infectious diseases have always fascinated me,” she says. “All of the different bacteria, viruses and parasites that live in the world around us that are constantly changing and then how medicine is constantly changing to deal with them.”

A collaborative, interdisciplinary area of medicine with the patient always at the center, Martone says she likes the need for constant education.

“There’s always new research and guidelines to be on top of to make sure you know how to best treat patients,” she says. “I love education and I always want to make sure my patient leaves their visit understanding their diagnosis and plan of care and that they’re on board with their treatment and plan.”

In the clinic, Martone says she’ll be working primarily with patients who require ongoing treatment on an outpatient basis after being discharged from the hospital.

Travel medicine is another interest for Martone, who has traveled extensively throughout her life, beginning as a child when her father was in the military.

“I moved very often as a child,” she says. “Always meeting new people and making new friends helped to make me a people person.”

In the Travel Medicine clinic, Martone says she’ll be focused on ensuring patients have the necessary vaccinations and medicines for traveling to their destination.

If she wasn’t a nurse practitioner, Martone says she’d likely be working with animals. She and her family have two rescue dogs, three cats and four chickens.

In her spare time, Martone says she loves spending time with her family and doing outdoor activities together that make the most of all four seasons.
