Southern NH Health Hosts Spinning Babies® Class, Leading the Way in Birth Practices

On October 15th and 16th, Southern NH Health hosted Spinning Babies® classes for 40 obstetricians, labor and delivery nurses, midwives, and doulas from across southern New Hampshire and as far away as Connecticut and New York. This open opportunity to learn a modern approach to childbirth emphasized our commitment to community education and better birth outcomes.

Spinning-Babies-5.jpgClinical Developmental Educator for the Birth Place at Southern NH Medical Center, Megan Palermo explained, “Offering this training to all birth professionals within Southern NH Medical Center as well as the community, facilitates the shared mission to not only improve birth outcomes, but improve the birth experience. A community working in harmony to support new and growing families will help us all thrive for generations to come.”

What is Spinning Babies®?

Spinning Babies® is a physiological method of childbirth that supports fetal rotation, the natural movement babies make as they navigate the birth canal. By improving how babies move through the pelvis, the process of childbirth can be easier and safer for both the birthing person and the baby. This technique helps reduce the need for interventions, like cesarean sections, and encourages more natural, physiologic births.

Our commitment to education and community impact

Southern NH Health is dedicated to advancing childbirth practices and supporting our community's health professionals. By opening this Spinning Babies® class to providers from outside our system, we reinforce our belief in sharing knowledge for the benefit of all. The training aligns with our goal of reducing cesarean section rates and promoting a safer, more supportive birthing experience for every family in our community.

Through initiatives like this, Southern NH Health is working to improve the care experience for families and enhance birth outcomes across the region.
